Our Mission
To provide communities with the most diverse, reliable, and flexible Star Wars Galaxies emulator. We will strive to ease server administration, enrich player experience, and encourage communities to extend our software. We will always be open, impose no restrictions, and listen to the voices of the communities.
What
OpenGalaxies is a server emulation project for the most under-appreciated MMORPG of the decade: Star Wars Galaxies. Our focus is on creating a Pre-CU emulator, along with a packaged community portal and a collection of tools to ease server administration and promote extendibility.
Who
Our team is comprised of volunteers from the surrounding SWG communities and former developers of previous emulation projects. We do what we can for OpenGalaxies in our spare time. View our team members.

All in all, this is everyone's project as much as it is our own. Without the knowledge, discoveries, breakthroughs, and forward steps made by all past and present projects, as well as the various server commmunities, OpenGalaxies would not be possible.
Why
Simply put, we're developing our server emulator because we want to. There's really no other reason. Though we're keeping the surrounding communities in mind and at heart so that our software will be useful and extendable, our motivation is derived from our own love of Pre-CU and our desire to play it again.
When
We'd like to avoid any misunderstandings from the get-go. We are not competing with existing emulation projects. We know they'll finish first (SWGEmu, SWGANH, to name a few). You might be wondering why we're not competing. In reality, there is no reason to. Our project is only possible as result of discoveries, information gatherings, and efforts of all past, present, and future contributors to the SWG emulation scene, including the emulation projects, SWGMods, and surrounding server communities. We'll only ever show tangible progress, and we'll stick to a release schedule that best suits our needs.
How
By pouring our own blood, sweat, and tears into the project of course! On a more serious note, we're using C++, Boost, Qt, Python, and MySQL. All of our documentation is maintained on our wiki, while our source code documentation is maintained with Doxygen.
Donation Policy
Our current policy is to not accept monetary donations of any kind. However, we acknowledge that some supporters may wish to make contributions regardless. Rather than accepting open-ended cash donations, we will accept products or services. For instance, if someone would like to donate a server, we feel it is more appropriate for the donator to purchase an actual server in his or her name, rather than donate the money directly to us to be used for purchasing a server. This ensures supporters that no funds from a third party will ever be misused, and eases the management of the project on our end.
Credit Policy
We believe in giving credit where credit is due. We already make an effort to recognize the contributors behind the information shared and the progress made throughout the emulation scene during the past 5 years. If we make a mistake, and someone isn't properly credited, please let us know so we can make corrections.
